In order to keep the game honest, there are rules that need to be followed. The MVP Franchise League reserves the right to add/change any and all rules during a season if need be. There will be prior notification of any rule changes. There may be conflicts that result due to misinterpretations of some wording, and in those scenarios, the staff members ONLY will serve as arbitrators. Please try to follow the rules closely to avoid misunderstandings and make the league a pleasant place for everyone.

1. General League Rules

1.2 No game modifications will be allowed, such as Stadium updates and Uniform updates, unless otherwise approved by league staff. These add-ons have been known to cause lag and slow down gameplay. You are only permitted to use the CURRENT LEAGUE ROSTERS for league games, unless authorized by the Roster Manager. Please contact the Roster Manager for any problems with the rosters.

1.3 You must have an AOL Instant Messenger ID and be dedicated to it. Do not allow anyone to use this ID or your EA sports ID. We do not want to try and arrange a game with your wife, girlfriend, or gay lover.

1.4 The use of foul language during a game will not be tolerated! We take these complaints very seriously! What you think is OK language use may be found offensive to others. So watch what you say. A print screen is valid proof and will be reviewed.

1.5 We play 4 games a week. If you cannot make the time to play 4 games in one week, then this league is not for you. If you miss a game for any reason you need to arrange to make that game up as soon as possible. If you are going on vacation or will not be available for a while, you NEED TO USE THE FORUMS to let people know. Otherwise, you go under the risk of your team being given away.

1.6 You must own a real, genuine copy of MVP Baseball licensed by EA Sports.

2. Pitching Rotation Rules

Failure to abide by these rules will result in suspensions and formal warnings.

2.1 We use a set 4-man rotation. You can only use each pitcher once per week. It is your responsibility as an owner of a team to make sure you check your weekly schedule to see who has started games for your teams.

You will be required to post your set rotation before the season and stick to it. For example, If you trade SP # 3, the new pitcher that replaced him in the rotation must pitch in the SP#3 slot. Same for callups, the SP you sent down must be replaced by the new SP you called up. If a SP is injured, the called up pitcher must pitch in his spot. This will be monitored closely and any violations will result in automatic suspensions.

At the start of week 6 you may change your starting rotation. If you feel that a certain SP has been struggling throughout the season you can change your starting 4. This is the only time when you can switch up your rotation. If you choose to do so, that's how your rotation will remain for the rest of the season. If your rotation is to your liking you can stay with how you set your starting 4 at the beginning of the season.

A pitcher may pitch in relief a maximum of 20 innings per season. This includes extra innings.

A reliever may only pitch 3 consecutive innings per game.

2.2 Attempts to get around the pitching rotation rules will result in forfeits for your team. For example, if it's noticed that you are pulling your starting pitcher in the 1st inning of every game and putting in a strong reliever, you will forfeit those games. Failure to abide by rule 2.2 will result in an automatic formal warning, and possible banishment from the MVP Franchise League.

2.3 Your SP cannot go under 50% stamina. No matter what inning it is, soon as he reaches 50%, he will need to be taken out. You can use the "mound visit" feature to try and up your stamina if youd like, but be warned, if you get a negative visit your stamina will drop a ton. If you are in the middle of an at-bat and your SP reaches his 50% stamina then you can finish that at-bat, and he will need to be subbed on the next at-bat. You can see the pitchers stamina on the top of the screen under the score, look fast because it flashes for about 2-3 seconds and its gone till the next pitch.

IF YOUR MANAGER GETS THROWN OUT OF A GAME THAT'S ON YOU. YOU WILL STILL BE SUBJECT TO A SUSPENSION IF YOUR SP GOES UNDER 50 % STAMINA DURING A GAME. THAT ALSO APPLIES IF A RP COMES IN AND PITCHES MORE THAN THE 3 INNINGS ALLOWED. MY ADVICE TO YOU IS DON'T RISK GETTING YOUR MANAGER EJECTED. I'VE NEVER SEEN A CALL OVER TURNED AND IT'S NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE.

3. Roster Rules & Regulations

3.1 You must download the roster before every new week. It is your job to make sure that you are using the Current League Roster before playing the week. You are only permitted to use the CURRENT LEAGUE ROSTERS for league games, unless authorized by the Chief Roster Editor. Failure to abide rule 3.1 will result an automatic formal warning and possible banishment from the MVP Franchise League.

Since MVP is a Franchise League, we have ignored all that has happened in the outside world. During the off-season, if someone is traded to your team, we won't put that in the roster.

Statistical updates of players will never be done during a season, so please don"t ask. Batting stances and/or pitch deliveries may be altered by the Chief Roster Editor at his discrection. If there are any roster mistakes or discrepancies, please contact the staff to resolve the issue.

4. Schedules

4.1 The regular season is 32 games long and you can play up to as many games as you want in one day. You will be playing each team in your division approximately 4 times, approximately 8 interleague games, and approximately 12 or 20 non-divisional games, depending on whether your division has 4 or 5 teams respectively. The schedules will be released on admins discretion.

4.2 Games that go unplayed for an extended period of time will be reviewed by the staff and judged accordingly. If you do not play games, you will be promptly removed. When the Schedules are posted you should try to set up a game with your opponent via AIM, Email, or make a post on the FORUMS.

4.3 You may not play any games ahead of the schedule that is posted on the Team Page, unless authorized by the staff. This will only be done for special situations, and both owners will need to contact the staff in order to receive authorization. Otherwise, the game WILL NOT count as league game.

5. Connection Settings

5.1 At a minimum, make sure you have at least a Pentium III based chip (or AMD equivalent) and at least 128MB of RAM in your machine. Exceptions to this are possible, but not likely. It"s very important that you let the Commissioner know if you"re lacking in either of these areas. Also, any type of 3D acceleration will definitely help.

5.2 We require at least a DSL modem and a minimum connection speed at least 200K to play. The best option is a cable modem, DSL, or higher.

5.3 The home team MUST host.

6.2 Please be sure to set your game options prior to the game starting. Also make sure to save a dynasty with the league settings and call it "MVP Settings" in order to differentiate it from any ongoing dynasty you may have. Load this dynasty and then exit prior to playing any scheduled game.

6.3 In the event that a desync(when one players sees one series of events while the other player sees a different result usually resulting in the game restarting for one or both players), the proper course of events to take is to resume the game from the last at bat in which the desync occured. If before the 5th inning, players may restart the game if they both agree to do so. After the 6th inning, players are to follow through with the procedure described above. A screenshot will help to determine exactly what happend, however it is not absolute, meaning that the screenshot is only cicrumstantial evidence and does not guarantee a victory or any other course of action other than what the rules state for this scenario. As in all matters, the staff reserves the right alter or modify the given rules on a case by case basis. Every other time, procedures are to be followed as stated above.

7. Lineup Usage

7.1 You may not use any self-created players. Please verify that you and your opponent have downloaded and installed the latest roster files before starting a game.

7.2 If a player has played at least 9 innings at one position during his career he may play that position. If he has "util" or "inf" as his second position that doesnt mean he can play everywhere. It is your responsiblity to verify what postition he plays.

If it is determined that a player is playing a new position for the 08 season, and it is different that his position in the game, you may apply for a new primary position change in the forums under "roster correction".

Every team MUST have a backup for every starter. That means, every team must carry 2 catchers, a 2 1B, at least 2 OF, a 2B, SS and 3B all on the bench. Remember just because a guy on the bench has "UTIL" as his secondary position doesnt mean he can play everywhere. Yes I said it again because it happens all the time and.....

Failure to abide rule 7.2 will result in a suspension of the violating players.

8. Batting Rules

8.1 You are only allowed to steal one base with any given runner with the same guy being up. For example, if Joe Smith is on first when Mickey Sanchez is up to bat and Joe Smith steals 2nd. He may not steal third until the next batter. This includes attempting a hit and run in the same AB after a runner steals a base. YOU CANNOT HIT AND RUN IN THE SAME AB AFTER A STEAL !!

8.2 Suicide Squeezes are out of the question in this league.

Do not attempt to bunt and send the runner home during the pitch! this is a suicide squeeze!!!! Do not Bunt, make contact and then send the runner home, this is a Safety squeeze. If you lay down a bunt with a runner at third he absolutely may not score. Period.

Failure to abide any of the rules discussed in this section will result in an AUTOMATIC OUT. If you run into an issue regarding these rules, please respectfully inform your opponent of his mistake, and the consequence. If there are any further issues, please contact the staff.

8.3 Do not use the bat to interfere with the pitch meter. That means no fake bunt attempts during the windup, no check swings. Yes batters in mlb show bunt then pull the bat back, but they dont have a pitch meter floating above their head. We do, and it may cause a red lag ball. So dont do it.

Moving in the box is not allowed at all !! You cannot move your batter before or after the pitch is thrown period !!

8.4 Stealing home is LEGAL. Dont confuse a "suicide squeeze" with stealing home. For example: A double steal is LEGAL. Runners at first and third, runner at first breaks for second, at the same time the runner at third breaks home... this is LEGAL. Only the gulible go for this trick

If any of these rules are broken, the player(s) violating the rule are OUT. PERIOD.

9. In-game Rules

9.1 If you are going to complain about a manager throwing all balls, then this league is not for you. If I play someone and am tossing them nothing but garbage, and they keep swinging, who is the dumbest? Not me, that's for sure. Remember, it is always the hitters responsiblity to make the pitcher throw strikes, not the other way around.

9.2 You must allow the other team to get their desired leadoff. This means no "quick pitch" or "quick pickoff." If someone is doing this to you, please just ask them for time for your leadoff.

***You MAY NOT use your batter’s swing to impede the pitcher from pitching while you take the leadoff, as in that scenario the pitcher loses the ability to make a successive pickoff move and causes lag.

If your opponent REFUSES to give you the desired leadoff, let one of the MVP staff know.

9.3 Should you and your opponent disconnect or become “out of sync” at any point of a game the following rules shall apply:

1. If your starters are still in they may not pitch past the ninth inning. If you’re in the 4th inning (or earlier) and disconnect, the pitcher may pitch up to 9 innings. Some pitchers in this game can go 20 innings if you let them, but I haven’t heard of anything like that happening since the dead-ball era in baseball.

2. However, if it is 5th or 6th inning you may only pitch your starter until the 7th. If it is already the 7th or beyond, your starter must come out. If there was some way to add fatigue to a pitcher when starting a game this wouldn't be a problem, but it is.

3. If you have a reliever in at any time and the game disconnects, you may only use that reliever for a total of 4 innings in the game. For example: if you put a reliever in the 6th inning and disconnect in the 8th, you may only use him until the 10th since he came in the 6th.

It is both your and your opponents' job to keep track of how many innings each pitcher threw in a disconnected game. Please address this matter during the game and remind your opponent to take out the pitcher in question, rather than waiting until the end of the game and complaining to the staff.

When the game disconnects, if possible both owners are required to run the extractor program and save the stats, you may reconnect and play the remainder of the game using the above rules. At the end of the game, extract the stats again and then submit both files to the technical support section in the forums. At that time both files will be looked at and spliced together to form one game file in which the winner will then be able to submit to the database.

9.4 No subbing a pitcher during an at-bat. Thats means if he threw 1 pitch he may not be subbed till the at-bat is over. For example: Its not right to get a batter in a 0-2 hole then sub in a nasty RP that the batter hasnt seen yet right in the middle of an atbat. Its cheesy. Just finish the at-bat then sub in your next reliever.

9.5 Starting pitchers may only pitch till 50% stamina. If your Starting pitcher dips below 50% BEFORE the at-bat begins you must change him. If it is 49% or below you MAY NOT do a mound visit to bring his stamina back up. It is too late and you must change him. If his stamina dips below 50% DURING an at-bat that is fine, Soon as that at-bat is over you must change the pitcher.

9.5A(new rule) If your pitcher goes under 50% stamina, he will be suspended for his next start.

9.6 Relivers may only pitch a max of 3 innings per game, and 20 innings for a full season.

9.7 You may only try a pickoff attempt 3 times per at bat, no matter how many runners on base. You get 3 Total attempts for all 3 bases.

10. Post-game Rules

10.1 The winner of the game must submit the game stats within 24 hours of playing a league game!

10.4 You may not disconnect from the game until you have verified with your opponent that he has all of the necessary stats recorded. Both players must save the game file after every game no matter who wins.

10.5 If you play 2 games at once without submitting the first one, remember to rename the file from the first game or IT WILL BE OVERWRITTEN when you extract the stats for the second game. In a 2 game series of any given week please play and submit the games in order on the site. The site automatically recognizes the 1st game submitted as game 1. If you don't submit the games in order you will get an error message and you won't be able to submit the 2nd game of the series.

We promote good sportsmanship here, always say GG to eachother at the end of the game. Yes we know its tough to lose, but we take our losses here and we dont cuss or act immature to our opponent at the end of the game because we lost. This WILL NOT be tolerated.

11. Trade Rules

11.1 You can only trade up to 2 players per week. That means 1 trade with 2 players or 2 separate trades with 1 player each. Lopsided trades will not be accepted. Preaseason trading will also be limited to 2 players max per trade and 4 players total. Once you agree to a trade with any team you will not be allowed to trade with that same team until the regular season starts (week 1).

11.2 We use Open Trading, which means no ratings will be used. Beware of people who will try to rip you off and take advantage of it! Trades will only be rejected if the trade is so lopsided that it clearly damages the integrity of trading, or if it is suspected that a deal is done without the intention of making your team better.

11.3 The trading deadline is at the conclusion of week 6. Minor league callups are still allowed all the way through the end of the regular season. Once the playoffs start, rosters are locked and may not be altered.

11.5 Minor League callups will be treated the same as transactions. If a pending trade that you are to submit is dependent on a minor league callup, it is YOUR responsibility to be around when trades are being processed. The Chief Roster Editor will contact anyone who is online at the time he is processing trades in order to allow you time to submit your callup and trade. For this reason, trades involving minor league players are not condoned.

11.6 For a trade to be accepted, both teams must submit the trade with the same players involved. Both owner must use the "submit trade" feature to submit their trades. Otherwise, the trade will be deleted from the database at the end of the week.

11.7 Once a trade has been submited through the database from both parties, it is considered an official trade and will not be removed. Verbal deals or deals only posted in the forum may be canceled, however, this is frowned upon. Remember, your reputation is on the line so if you continuously back out on deals, word spreads fast and no one will want to trade with you.

11.8 If it is determined that you lied during a deal about the player, you will receive a formal warning and the trade will be declined. It will even be reversed if it was originally approved. If you"re caught a second time, you will be banished from the MVP Franchise League.

11.9 Multi-team deals are allowed, but please specify that when submitting. Please contact the roster manager if you want to trade a player twice during the same week.

11.10 You must carry at least three starting pitchers on your roster at all times, all of which must have at least a 65 or higher overall rating. Starting pitchers are identified with an "SP" as their position (seen when choosing your pitcher before a game.).

11.11 You must always carry one starting pitcher who has at least a 75 or higher rating. This pitcher will be known as your "Ace." You must play with your new players acquired via trade once the players appear on your roster. Along the same lines, you may not play or trade with your new players until you have them on your roster after you downloaded the roster.

11.12 You must have 25 players on your site roster at all times. All Inactive Players will be put to your inactive list. At any time during the year, you may switch any one of your players on the active list with a person on the inactive list, as long as you keep the 25 player requirement.

11.13 We reserve the right to deny any trade that we feel is unfair.

12. Forum Rules

12.1) There are no unreasonable minimums or maximums regarding the number of posts on the forums, but please be reasonably active and communicate with other members of the league. This will give us more of an indication of player activity. The use of foul language in the forums will not be tolerated.

13.) Playoff Rules

13.1) All playoff games must be played promptly. It is understood that there may be personal issues going on at a particular time, but please use your judgment. If you are not going to be able to finish a series within the guidelines stated, please just be a gentleman and forfeit, rather than making everyone else wait for you.

13.2) Each league will produce 4 playoff teams = 2 division winners and 2 wildcards. the first 2 rounds will be best of 5 games with a 3 man rotation. the world series will be 7 games with a 4 man rotation.

13.3) Remember, if your starter has pitched relief for that series, he is NOT eligible to pitch the rest of the series.

The first two rounds will and should only take a week. The last two rounds will and should only take a week as well. Failure to play your games within these guidelines will result in a forfeit.

And the #1 rule, have some fun! This is what this league is about. I don"t want to hear complaints up the wazoo!
